What is a °CRYO Sphere and How it can Help You!
A °CRYO Sphere is a massage roller that provides all the benefits of traditional myofascial release (foam rolling) in combination with Cryotherapy (Ice Massage). At °CRYO Stay Young, we use the Recoup Cryosphere which offers 3.4 ounces of cooling gel and combines the benefits of cryotherapy and traditional massage for a quick recovery from muscle pains.
It’s a friction-free, smooth-rolling ball glides comfortably over the skin. It reduces inflammation and enhances recovery while the insulating gel maintains the ball’s temperature so that it won’t get too cold. The non-toxic gel in the rolling sphere can stay cold for about six hours after 2 hours in the freezer.
What’s a myofascial release?
It’s a soft tissue therapy used to treat deep muscular tension, somatic dysfunction, and pain by relaxing the fascia (the fibrous bands around muscles, ligaments, and tendons).
WHAT DOES °CRYO Sphere do?
Using Cryosphere across your entire body or the specific area will:
- accelerate and recover damaged or inflamed muscles and injuries
- It increases blood and lymphatic flow using trigger point myofascial release.

- Helps to break up scar tissue and improve lactic acid build-up

°CRYO Sphere’s Medical Applications
Knee or ACL Injury
Knee injuries are one of the most common injuries. Knees are made up of several different ligaments that help stabilize the knee joint. The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the key ligaments and also one of the most commonly injured ligaments. The ACL connects your thigh bone to your shinbone and is most commonly injured by sudden stops and changes in direction.
How to use the Cryosphere for a knee of ACL injury:
- Freeze your Cryosphere for at least 2 hours for the full 6 hours of cold massage.
- Sit with your knee relaxed in a way that would allow you to reach the inside and outside of your knee.
- Hold your Cryosphere and gently roll the ice-cold ball across your entire knee, hitting the inside and outside to include your ACL and MCL.
- Apart from just the knee joint, make sure you hit the attaching ligaments and the muscles around the joint to reduce inflammation.
- Massage deeper into the muscles and ligaments around your knee joint for up to 20 minutes.
Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common injuries, reasons people go to the doctor and is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Almost everyone experiences back pain at least once. Acute back pain is the most common, usually caused by heavy lifting or a sports injury. Chronic back pain is a term used to describe back pain that lasts more than three months. While everyone is different, back pain is commonly linked to muscle or ligament strains, bulging discs, arthritis, sciatica, and osteoporosis.
How to use the Cryosphere for back pain:
- Freeze your Cryosphere for at least 2 hours for the full 6 hours of cold massage.
- If you have the help of another set of hands, lay flat on the floor or a massage table. Have someone use the Cryosphere in the handle to dig deep into the pain points and surrounding muscles for up to 20 minutes.
- If you are using the Cryosphere on your own back, use it in the handle if you can reach for more pressure. You can also use the ball outside of the handle by unscrewing the blue handle and taking the cold ball out of the handle.
- Find a non-slippery surface like a yoga mat or carpeted floor.
- Place the cold ball under the pain area of your back and slowly roll up and down placing pressure with your weight.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is an overuse injury caused by an inflammatory thickening or degeneration of the plantar fascia. The connective tissue is more like a ligament than a tendon that stretches from the heel to the toes, spanning the arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is caused by tissue fatigue due to excessive strain. Plantar fasciitis is extremely common in anyone who is on their feet all day, especially on hard surfaces, as well as in runners and other athletes. Plantar fasciitis affects more than 10% of runners every year.
How to use the Cryosphere for Plantar Fasciitis:
- Freeze your Cryosphere for at least 2 hours for the full 6 hours of cold massage.
- Unscrew the blue handle and take the cold ball out of the handle.
- Place the ball on a carpet or mat.
- Roll from toe to heel while placing the extra weight over the arch of the foot.
- Place as much pressure as is comfortable along the arch of the foot.
- Roll out at least once in the morning and night, and roll out immediately after activity and whenever you feel inflammation or pain.
